Microcassette Transfer

We can record your microcassette to a digital .wav or .aiff file for playback on a modern PC or Mac, or mobile device. These file formats can then be converted to mp3 or flac. First introduced in 1969, the microcassette is the most successful format for dictation recording in history. Many historical recordings may currently live only on microcassette, and we can help to preserve them.

microcassetteMicrocassette was very popular for recording meetings, legal proceedings, dictated field notes, and interviews since it could record up to 60 minutes per side, were smaller than cassettes, but offered choices of speeds unlike the compact cassette. Microcassette recorders, also sometimes called dictaphones, are often hand-held and sometimes still in use today since they record to the physical medium of tape compared to the modern mobile phone.
